"May I commend you faithful Saints who are striving to flood the earth and your lives with the Book of Mormon. Not only must we move forward in a monumental manner more copies of the Book of Mormon, but we must move boldly forward into our own lives and throughout the earth more of its marvelous messages."
                  - President Ezra Taft Benson (Beware of Pride, April 1989.)

More Than a Book Indeed.

"Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” Introduction of Book of Mormon

About six years ago I had a conversation with a man who insisted that the Book of Mormon was just a book and that there was no way it could possibly help him.  He explained that he had real problems and he needed more than words on a page.  I testified to him then, as I would now, that the Book of Mormon could have a literal power in his life because it was the word of God, not just words on a page.

Over the years I have thought a lot about that conversation.  I have pondered upon the power of The Book of Mormon in my life.

No, the Book of Mormon hasn't provided extra income when finances were a burden.  No, it didn't provide job opportunities to gain professional success. No the Book of Mormon has not magically fixed or changed all of my problems. But then again, that was never really what I needed.

All throughout my life the Book of Mormon has, as well as I allow it to, fixed or changed my real problem... me. The Book of Mormon has changed me.

For me, the power of the Book of Mormon is in the comfort, peace and love I feel as the Spirit touches my heart when I read and ponder it's teachings.  The power is in the understanding and perspective I gain as the Spirit touches my mind as I study the doctrine that is so plainly taught in there.

But more than anything else, the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  As I read and study from it's pages I come to know and appreciate him.  I am overwhelmed with the love and mercy he has shown me and all of us.  I am filled with gratitude for His Atoning sacrifice and I recognize the literal power it has or can have in my life.
As I study it's pages, from somewhere deep within I long to be better, more kind, more loving, more like Him.  Somehow my focus/or concentration/concerns shift from my inward perspective to an outward awareness, a change I could not bring about on my own.

As I continue to experience the power of the Book of Mormon in my own life and witness the power of it in the lives of others, my heart is filled with a love and gratitude for the word of God.  I am overwhelmed at the love, kindness and mercy of our Heavenly Father, that He would bless us with His Word that we might draw near unto Him and feel more deeply of His love.  That we might understand more fully His plan and our purpose here on earth.

Truly this The Book of Mormon is more than just a book.  It's far more than just words on a page.  It is the word of God.  It invites the Spirit of God into our lives, it draws us nearer to our Heavenly Father and His Only Begotten Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.  And we are changed.

We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.) Introduction of Book of Mormon

Lou's Testimony...when/how did you gain your testimony that the Book of Mormon was the word of God?
